“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him. ”
2 Peter 3:10-14 NIV
Just want to encourage and remind us that Jesus Christ will be returning sooner than we think.
For the non Christian this passage is a reminder of the opportunity for salvation. God doesn’t desire that any should perish. He desires a personal relationship with every single human being. He wants you to be His child and to live according to His word. To be in fellowship with Jesus Christ and with other believers. This life is not the end. YOLO is not real but Heaven and Hell are real. I beg of you to choose Christ. And not just to keep you from Hell and because Heaven is good. But rather because God is good and He is so amazing. His ways are unfathomable. His love is unconditional. His peace is indescribable. God is an awesome God.
For Christians this means that we need to be sure that we are living holy &godly lives by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, who lives inside of us. We must flee from sin and pursue righteousness. I’m not implying at all that this is easy, but the Christian life isn’t defined as easy. It is actually hard to be a living SACRIFICE, to SUFFER for Christ, to DIE to the flesh, etc. None of those capitalized words are easy in the least. But I promise you that with Christ they are both POSSIBLE and WORTH IT! Focus on eternity and remember that we are living for the One that died for us.
