SPIRITUAL CAVITIES

Most of us have experienced cavities in our lifetime; whether it was when we were younger or in my case, recently. As I was getting my teeth cleaned, drilled and filled for 3hrs (literally) I was really convicted. How could I neglect to care for this body that was so graciously given to me by a Holy God? He shaped me in my mother’s womb. Some synonyms for shape are fashion, mold, form, model and make. Those things take time. God took His time creating me because He cares about details and He does everything in decency and in order. He is perfect and He is Holy… I, on the other hand, have a tendency to half way complete tasks or rush through them just so that I can get finished. Sometimes you will catch me smashing and moving my mashed potatoes around on my plate in order to give the impression that I have eaten a lot of my food.

To our demise, many of us have Spiritual Cavities because we are neglecting to care for our spiritual well being. We are rushing through things in order to say that we have completed them. We aren’t brushing at least twice a day and we definitely aren’t flossing because we don’t see the importance in it and sometimes we are just down right lazy.

Spiritual Brushing (Praying)

It is imperative that we as Christians brush throughout the day. Brushing= praying. Of course many of us wake up and brush (pray) before we do anything else but is that the only time that we pray each day. Are we actually taking our time and praying through everything that is on our heart and not just praying for ourselves but also praying for others. We should be praying that the lost would be found &saved. We should be praying that the sick would be healed and that God would grant us precious opportunities to share the Gospel. We should CONSTANTLY be repenting of our sins because that is a mark of a true Christian, right? We are sinners but we are repentant sinners. We fall at the feet of Jesus and seek His forgiveness and we seek His face.

Spiritual Flossing (Reading &Studying the Bible)

This should be at the top of the priorities for a Christian. By definition a Christian is someone who follows Jesus Christ. If we don’t read God’s word and see how we should be living then we will fall short. How will we know what it looks like to follow Jesus Christ if we don’t know what the Bible says, if we don’t know Jesus’ character and how He lived while He was on earth?

Also, God’s word TRANSFORMS. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12. So of course we can brush (pray) and give off the impression that we are a Christian by how white our teeth are on the outside but are you slowly getting cavities in the dark, hidden places because you aren’t flossing by reading and studying God’s word. This would mean that you have hidden sins that we are labeling as small sins that don’t matter to anyone. You haven’t confessed these sins to anyone and you aren’t battling against these sins…  God promised that everything in the dark will come to the light: “For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.” Mark 4:22

We may be able to fool those around us into thinking that we are spiritually healthy and that we are caring for ourselves like we should but we can never fool God.

The cost of getting physical cavities drilled and filled is expensive just as GETTING SPIRITUAL CAVITIES DRILLED AND FILLED IS EXPENSIVE. The drilling part is the conviction. Half obedience is complete disobedience. We have to be obedient to Christ at all cost; whether we feel like it or not. This drilling (discipline) is painful but necessary. After the drilling God will fill us and He will lead us back to the right path. God is gracious meaning that He gives us undeserved favor. He loves us and He wants us to be authentically healthy Christians. In order to be healthy we have to Brush and Floss (Pray and Study the Bible).

Care for your Spiritual Health with all diligence now so that you can avoid having to pay an expensive cost later.

Be sure to Read and Study the Bible throughout the dayImage
