“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” –Matthew 11:28-30
Some people post their problems on Facebook and others tell everyone around them everything that they are going through. I have been guilty of telling friends all of my
struggles. I’m sure that you have too. But in the end comes disappointment because you have shared the details of your current situation and maybe the person gives you some “off the wall”advice. Or maybe they don’t say anything after you’ve just poured your heart out to them. Then you walk away with the SAME problem that you had in the beginning but now someone else knows who doesn’t even need to know. Right? Yes, it is beneficial to share with others
because they may have been through a similar situation and may be able to
encourage you. Also, we as Christians are the body of Christ. We are a family so
we should be able to share struggles with one another and exhort each other. But
the main thing that we as Christians do to help a sister or brother is PRAY. And
prayer is talking to God. So even though a sister or brother in Christ can
encourage and support you, they ultimately take the situation to God in prayer.
The scripture above is directly from the mouth of Jesus Christ, Himself. He calls us to come to Him with our burdens (problems, issues, heartaches, dramas, etc). He is the only One who has the power to work out the situations in your life. Jesus tells us to come to Him and He alone will give us rest. He does NoT say that your boyfriend/girlfriend will give you rest, or drinking or friends, or cuddling. He said that He gives the rest.
Jesus really cares. Slowly read the scripture again and hear the passion in His words. Hear how much Jesus cares for you and desires that your soul have rest. He is sincere and gentle. You can’t find that in many friends now-a-days. They will say that they care but then when you are really going through the worse you look up, see dust, the bottom of their shoes and the back of their heads. Sometimes people may genuinely care but at the time they have so
much going on in their own lives that they cannot take on your burdens too
because they may collapse.
But praise be to God that the One we serve is strong! He is perfect and has no burdens of His own because He is sinless. He is able to simultaneously take all of our burdens AND work them out AND give us peace while He does it. LOL. How amazing is this God who is never too busy to answer the phone when we call. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Trade is your
sorrows for smiles. Trade in your heavy burdens for Jesus’ light burdens. Trust Him. Call on the One who cares for you more than anyone you know. Call on the One who not only listens to your problems but can fix your problems.
