“No temptation has overtaken you except
such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”-1Corinthians 10:13
Temptation– lure, seduction, attraction,
enticement to do something wrong, to
As we know, Satan tempts us to do wrong
things against God because he hates God and everything that belongs to God.
Further, our flesh also tempts us: “each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed” –James 1:14
We cannot keep temptation from happening.
It is a part of life. We cannot control when we are tempted and how. It is not a sin to be tempted. Jesus Himself was tempted by Satan. What matters is how we respond when we are tempted. The best way to not fall into temptation is to FLEE from it and to use THE WORD OF GOD. You shouldn’t purposely put yourself in tempting situations. But if you do get into a tempting situation you must remember the truth.
Example: Sexual Temptation. You like a guy
and you go on a date with him to the movies. During the movie you are holding hands and you get butterflies in your stomach. You feel like he really likes you and cares about you because of the sweet things that he says to you. After the movies you go to his house because his parents are out of town. RED FLAG! You have just stepped into a tempting situation. Holding hands leads to one thing which leads to another which leads to sex. Then the next day you talk to your girl friends and tell them: “It just happened and I don’t know how.” Most times after this scenario comes heart break. Then the next thing you know you’re not even in a relationship with the same guy anymore. He moves onto the next girl. You are left empty, mad, feeling dirty, regretful, etc.
Temptation isn’t only about sexual matters
but all sinful matters. You may be tempted to be self absorbed and not help someone who needs you. Or to cuss someone out for getting smart with you. You may be tempted to be rude to a friend for something they did to you. Temptation even extends to clubbing and getting drunk with your girls on a weekend.
These situations are not too hard for you
to handle. When you go into the situation relying completely on your emotions to make your decision, it will be difficult. But if you use your brain you will see more clearly. Emotions without logic will always get you into trouble!Emotions can change instantly. AND… as the scripture above says, these tempting
situations are common, right? How many young women do you know who have been in
Be watchful of your actions and make sure that they line up with your morals. Constantly Falling into the same temptation will alter your character and pull you further away from God. So when you are really really questioning whether or not to do something; it may be best NOT TO DO IT. 🙂
